Restoring historic parkland in Camberwell that Council was using as a staff carpark
DELIVERED: Our marvellous new park opened in 2023 on the grounds of Camberwell Primary and is enjoyed daily by hundreds of local children – after a 7-year campaign that I originally established and led.
Re-designing the Lewin Reserve pavilion
DELIVERED: The 5-star green rated, architecture award-winning pavilion was completed in 2024 (with input from local residents). Embedded in the landscape with a rooftop terrace, outdoor amphitheatre steps and a multipurpose community space, it is naturally ventilated, with an electric heat pump, solar panels and collects rainwater for reuse in bathrooms.
Bowen Street Community Centre expansion
DELIVERED: The Centre was expanded and upgraded in 2021
Establishing a Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) Masterplan
DELIVERED: The Masterplan was completed in 2022. I serve on Gardiners Creek Committee that we established to oversee its development and implementation.
Working with environment groups to regenerate Back Creek and Gardiners Creek
DELIVERED: I supported the establishment of Back2Nettleton in 2020 and have consistently supported and promoted their work and that of other volunteer environment groups.
Advocating for pedestrian and cycle separation on Gardiners Creek Trail and shared paths and improved signage
DELIVERED: The new Bicycle Strategy 2022-32 commits Council to path separation where possible. Additionally, environmental lighting has been provided along the path, improved signage key locations and a new mural in the Burke Rd underpass.
Delivering the Camberwell Sports Ground pavilion renovations, including provision of female friendly change rooms
DELIVERED: The Camberwell Sportsground upgrades were completed in 2021
Initiating a renewed focus on street trees and green spaces
DELIVERED: Council’s new Tree Canopy Strategy, Tree Protection Local Law and Urban Biodiversity Strategy were all completed and adopted in 2024 providing renewed focus on our trees and green spaces.
Committing Council to being a leader in renewable energy and achieving carbon neutrality
DELIVERED: Council adopted its first Climate Action Plan in 2021, achieved net carbon neutrality in 2022 and is committed to actual carbon neutrality by 2040.
Establishing Heritage, Cycling and Environmental Sustainability Committees
DELIVERED: All were established in 2020 and I have served on each of these committees.
Protecting our heritage and oppose inappropriate development
DELIVERED: Heritage studies were completed for the entirety of Gardiner Ward:
The Glen Iris Heritage Gap Study (completed in 2022) resulted in protection of:
• 3 additional heritage precincts
• 15 individually significant heritage properties.
The Hawthorn East Heritage Gap Study (completed in 2021) and resulted in protection of:
• 7 additional heritage precincts and an extension to an existing precinct
• 17 individually significant properties
Promoting design excellence and encourage sustainability in planning controls
DELIVERED: Council’s first Design Excellence Guide was published in 2023 and draft Environmentally Sustainable Design planning provisions adopted in 2022 which are being implemented while still awaiting Ministerial approval.
Upgrading the Dorothy Laver Reserve West sport fields
DELIVERED: The playing fields were comprehensively upgraded in 2024.
Upgrading the Nettleton Park Playground
DELIVERED: The new nature-play playground was completed in 2021.
